Project Description

Many large, national organizations find this to be particularly difficult to do—namely, remaining relevant in a decentralized network where local affiliates have a high degree of autonomy. The executive director of this organization asked us to help him figure out how he could create the infrastructure for a more cohesive, value-added relationship between the national office and its local chapters and affiliates.  Working with his senior leadership team, we facilitated a strategic conversation during the organization’s annual staff retreat held at the prestigious Wye River Conference Center. During this engagement we completed one-on-one interviews with a sample of their chapter leaders and an online survey to better understand the profile of an effective leader. At the end of our engagement, we wrote a comprehensive report and action plan the national office used to choose from a prioritized list of potential ways they could provide technical assistance at the local level.
