Project Description

Symphonic Strategies helped to develop the strategic plan for a community-wide, multi-sector initiative in Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY called the Human Justice Initiative (HJI). The HJI is an effort to build effective multi-sector partnerships that reduce conflict and repair relationships in Bed-Stuy between community members and officers of the New York Police Department. Recognizing that the rise in mass arrest is not a sustainable substitute for community and youth development, the HJI is an initiative to craft a comprehensive grassroots movement to transform Bed-Stuy into a national leader for youth and community development.

The HJI is led by Dr. Divine Pryor and Kyung-Ji Rhee (Center for NU Leadership on Urban Solutions) with support from the Pinkerton Foundation, the Prospect Hill Foundation, the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the New York Police Department (79th Precinct), and more.
