The leadership of this philanthropic intermediary asked us to help them create an initiative called GAME—Girls Acquiring Meaningful Experiences. The objective was to bring together those in the community whose work somehow touches girls of color to discuss ways they could work better together? The client also wanted to provide a safe space where the executive directors of these organizations could learn new things and exchange ideas with each other.
Over the course of the year, we worked with the client to design a community of practice for GAME. As part of their membership in the GAME initiative, participants received a host of individual and organizational support services. We developed and delivered workshops and seminars that exposed the staff and leadership of GAME participants to the leading thought and practices when it comes to working with girls of color. We assisted in the creation of organizational development plans and strategies that improved the ability of participating organizations to serve girls more effectively. We also convened a day-long conference with experts in the field to allow for an open dialogue with participants. Finally, we developed a tool kit of best practices for delivering quality services to girls that was distributed to all participants.
